How to use this calculator

Click the keys or use your keyboard to build an expression, then press = (or Enter) to calculate it — nothing is evaluated until then.

Keys

AC: Clear everything and start over.
⌫: Delete the last character you typed.
±: Flip the sign of the number you're entering, or of your last result.
%: Percent — see the note below, it's more useful than a plain ÷100.
÷ × − +: The four basic operations. × and ÷ are calculated before + and −, as in standard math.
=: Evaluate the expression on screen.

Keyboard shortcuts

0–9 .: Enter a number.
+ - * /: Operators (* and / become × and ÷).
%: Percent.
Enter: Same as pressing =.
Backspace: Delete last character.
Esc: Clear all.

A note on percentages

Type 40+10% and press = and you'll get 44 — that's 40 plus 10% of 40, the way a tip or a discount usually works. Type 5×10% instead and you'll get 0.5, since on its own % just means ÷100. Same key, different meaning depending on what's around it — that's how most calculator apps handle it, not a bug.
